This time we will focus on how to paint wear and imitate the effects produced by the desert climate on subjects from different eras, and even from a different planet. The harsh conditions that occur in these environments determine the realistic finishes that our models must have. For this task, we will learn different techniques that will imitate discolouration, chipping, ever-present dust and accumulations of dirt using filters, washes, natural effects, pigments, chipping products... and the step by step processes used to achieve the most realistic result for desert vehicles and scenarios.
Overview of the models and articles presented: Desert Eagles (four-page photo gallery of World War 2 and later fighter aircraft in desert camouflage); L'Americain. A-36 Apache (1:48 scale model by Accurate Miniatures); AT-6 Texan. Spanish Air Force in the Sahara (1974) (1:32 scale model by Kitty Hawk); Panavia Tornado GR1 (1:48 scale model by Revell); Ju 87B-2 "Desert Stuka" (1:48 scale model by Revell); Mirage IIIC (1:48 scale model by Hobby Boss); Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IXC (1:32 scale model by Tamiya); A-Wing (1:72 scale model).
