The Douglas A-1 Skyraider (designated AD prior to the 1962 naval and air force designation standardisation) is a single-seat American fighter aircraft that served from 1946 through the early 1980s, seeing action during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. The Skyraider had an unusually long career, remaining in front-line service well into the jet age, when most piston-powered attack or fighter aircraft were replaced by jet aircraft. The aircraft was named after the French World War I fighter plane Spad or after its original AD designation Able Dog. The Skyraider was used by the US Navy, the United States Marine Corps and the USAF and was also used by the Royal Navy, the French Air Force, the Air Force of the Republic of Vietnam (RVNAF) and others. It remained in service with the USA until the early 1970s. This book is aimed at model-makers and enthusiasts alike, with historical details, tours, colour profiles and instructions for modelling the Skyraiders in popular scales.
