The time span begins with John Harrison, who developed the first seaworthy navigation clocks in the 18th century. It ends with the conflicts of the present day and the mostly quartz wristwatches that continue to be officially purchased and issued to soldiers.The appendix also shows an incomplete overview of clocks used by the armed forces of Commonwealth countries and some allies. From observatory clocks, deck and fortress clocks to torpedo running time, artillery stop and trench clocks, virtually every clock ever used by the British forces for timekeeping is included.
