Description
Ever since people have been fighting wars, they have had to maintain and repair their weapons. As maintenance was long regarded as a service, it only became a branch of the armed forces in 1976. However, maintainers have always existed: from the king's fusiliers under Louis XIV to Napoleon's artillery platoon, from the Resistance to the Allied landings or from the Algerian Djebel to the rice paddies of Indochina... Then came the Gulf War, the former Yugoslavia, Afghanistan and the Sahel. As it supports all army units both domestically and on operations, the material armoury never rests. These men and women in the background, who are constantly called upon and constantly deployed, ensure constant support at all times and in all places, sometimes even in the midst of action and fire. Their often unknown history is told in this well-documented and richly illustrated book.
