In this book you can appreciate the development and complexity of France's uniforms, from the Louis XV era to the Second Empire of Napoleon III. All the subjects are seen through the eyes of Jacques Marie Gaston Onfroy de Bréville, well known by the pen name "Job" after his initials (1858-1931), a great French artist. The series is published on 3 volumes that include about 200 and more wonderful original illustrations of uniforms from the 18th century to Napoleonic era until the end of 19th century. This book presents pictorial documentation of the appearance of French soldiers throughout the period, with the support of short essays on France's military history. The particulary well-executed original Job's illustrations, slightly restored by our graphic artist are presented to the general public here for the first time. Job's plates show how the Royal and Imperial French Army, again and again, were a decisive factor in the story of Europe.
Published in three volumes, the series features more than 200 of Job's marvellous original illustrations reflecting the uniforms of the French military from the 18th century through the Napoleonic era to the end of the 19th century. This book offers a comprehensive pictorial documentation of the uniforms of the French army and deals with the essential aspects of French military and uniform history from the 18th to the end of the 19th century by means of short extracts. The original Job illustrations shown here have been slightly restored by the makers of this book and are presented to the public for the first time in this publication. Job's uniform illustrations show how the armies of French kings and emperors repeatedly played a key role in shaping the destiny of European history.
