Descriptionof Von Akkon nach Dürnstein. Herzog Leopold V. und König Richard I. Löwenherz
-
Manufacturer
The author dispels the old myth that the quarrel between Duke Leopold and Richard I of England was due to personal insults and takes the reader on a journey from Acre to Aquileia, across the Alps to Friesach and over the Semmering to Vienna, where the king was imprisoned in the castle at court before being taken to Dürnstein. At the end, of course, is the death of both regents, with the circumstances leading up to it, as well as their final resting places, described in detail. With never-before-seen photographs from the author's camera and with pictures from various Austrian archives, the story comes alive.
An old saga about the crusade of Emperor Frederick I, King Richard I the Lionheart of England and Duke Leopold of Austria, and the facts behind this story. The book uses historical sources to describe the true facts. The reader learns why disputes actually arose with the Emperor's imperial policy. The events before Acre are described as well as the king's hasty journey home, his adventurous flight through the lands of the Babenberg, his imprisonment in the fortress of Dürnstein and the imperial castle on Trifels, as well as the difficulties involved in paying the ransom.
