Description
The first comprehensive biography of Caesar Marcus Aurelius Severus Antoninus Pius Augustus, better known as Emperor Caracalla. Few Roman rulers have had such bad press, then and now, as Caracalla. Various murders and massacres are said to be to his credit. Despite all this, he was extremely popular with his soldiers, as he increased their pay and at least gave them the impression of sharing the hard life of a simple legionary on the campaigns. This account of Caracalla's life tries to find out what of the popular image of him corresponds to reality, what his politics were like and, above all, how his campaigns in Britain, Germania, the Balkans in Armenia and Persia went.
