Almost exactly 2500 years ago, the decisive battles of the Persian Wars took place at Thermopylae, Salamis and Plataea. These battles were accorded world-historical significance in antiquity and even more so in the centuries that followed. However, the details of the events, their military-political and cultural impact and their detailed assessment have been the subject of much controversial research, not least due to the difficult source situation. The present volume is the result of a conference held in Budapest on the occasion of the anniversary of the Xerxes campaign against Hellas, at which old and new questions relating to the war and the history of its reception were discussed. It was jointly organised by the editors of the volume and attracted speakers from all over the world. The volume brings together scholars from all areas of classical studies and related disciplines and is divided into two sections: 1. Graeco-Persian Wars. Diplomacy and Acculturation; 2. Commemorating and remembering the war from antiquity to the present. 19 authors from 10 different countries provide a good overview of current studies in this field.
