When one considers that the Swordfish entered service as early as 1936 andpowered by the same enginewas still operational at the end of the Second World War, the true significance of this aircraft becomes apparent. Although very slow and lacking agility, it could deliver bombs, torpedoes, depth charges, and rockets to their targets with greater precision than most of its contemporaries and successors. In fact, by the end of the war, it had sunk more enemy shipping tonnage than any other Allied aircraft and saw service in virtually every theater of operations. Author Neil Robinson possesses extensive knowledge of the color schemes and markings of RAF and FAA aircraft from the 1930s and 1940sexpertise that is crucial for this subject.
