We hail artists, poets and writers, sometimes even religious leaders or politicians. But who cheers engineers and inventors? Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, philosophers of technology have been pointing out the importance of engineering. Not much has changed until today. The author of this work has made it his task to describe the work of aerospace pioneers and to draw biographies of some of these personalities.
In this volume 2, which follows on seamlessly from volume 1, the reader will find the following German aerospace pioneers represented with short biographies: Oswald Boelcke (inventor of aerial combat tactics; Hugo Eckener (hereditary prince and successor to Ferdinand Graf von Zeppelin); Wolf Hirth (glider pioneer); Gottlob Espenlaub (rocket plane pioneer); Ernst and Hans Röver (inventors of radio remote control); Ernst Udet (legendary fighter pilot of World War 1 and general airman). The biographies are supplemented by 1 map, 2 colour illustrations and 79 contemporary documents and photographs in black and white.
