Description
Volume 3 of the "Luftwaffe Library" series. The Messerschmitt Bf 109 T forms an important part of the variant history of Germany's best-known fighter aircraft type. 70 of them were built in 1941, initially as carrier aircraft for the planned German aircraft carrier "Graf Zeppelin". When the aircraft carrier project was cancelled, the Bf 109 Ts were handed over to the Luftwaffe, which used them in Norway.
In the course of a brief resumption of the aircraft carrier project, the Bf 109 Ts were withdrawn from Norway and converted again for carrier use. The final end of the "Graf Zeppelin" project at the beginning of 1943 led to the transfer of the Bf 109 Ts to the "Jagdstaffel Helgoland". At the end of the year, the entire squadron was transferred back to southern Norway. In mid-1944, the remaining Bf 109 Ts were withdrawn from front-line service and assigned to various training units. This book describes in detail the history and use of the Bf 109 T during World War II and includes accounts not only from the pilots who flew the aircraft themselves at the time, but also from its opponents in the Royal Air Force and the U.S. Army Air Force. All Bf 109 T losses are listed.
