Previous writings on the streamlined Albatros C.V have presented a somewhat distorted, even detrimental view of the aircraft which is unmerited as tellingly revealed by this revisionist monograph. The meld of an ultra-clean airframe with the powerful and reliable Mercedes Benz D.IV motor proved a huge success and although production was relatively modest in number, the C.V gave distinguished and lengthy service. The totally enclosed engine gave the aeroplane a strikingly modern look, emphasized by the early date of its service debut when the Allied opposition fielded aircraft of marked inferiority. The C.V was an important type and for the first time ever, Peter M. Grosz relates the aeroplane's full history dismantling many past preconceptions and correcting previous inaccuracies in the process. Over 50 rare images, including airframe sketches, close-up details of cockpits and engines, along with with 11 pages of highly detailed C.V/16 and C.V/17 scale plans by Marty Digmayer, there are also detailed colour notes and three rear cover profiles.
11 pages with detailed sketches of the Albatros C.V/16 and C.V/17 as well as information on paintwork and markings complete the illustration.
