The Tactical Leadership Programme (TLP) was established in 1978 and is one of the oldest military training programmes in Europe, focusing on improving the tactical leadership and flying skills of NATO air forces. Its primary objective is to improve interoperability between NATO members and to provide a flying laboratory for new tactical concepts of operation. With ten founding members Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States the TLP has trained thousands of pilots from various European and North American air forces. Over the decades, it has adapted to four technological generations of aircraft and trained pilots during the Cold War, the post-Berlin Wall era, and the rise of global terrorism. The book covers the history of the TLP and details its training curriculum, the rigour of its courses, and the evolving air bases. It also includes interviews with commanding officers, highlighting the importance of qualified commanders for leading multinational air formations. Experienced non-commissioned officers discuss the coordination of different teams across languages and cultures.
