In great detail, this publication analyses the development of air forces in the Arab states of Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Algeria, Lebanon and Jordan in the 1950s and 1960s. The focus is on the introduction and use of the first jet fighters, such as the MiG-19 and MiG-21, by the aforementioned states. The overall strategic and political background for equipping these states with modern fighter aircraft is also explained. The war with Israel in 1967 receives special attention, because the use and tactics of the Arab MiG jet fighters can be illustrated particularly well on the basis of this conflict. The treatise is completed by a war breakdown of the Egyptian air forces from 4 June 1967.
