At 4:18 pm, the New Zealand pilot pushes the throttle forward. Four Merlin engines roar to life and the "Lancaster" bomber begins to move sluggishly. It is 12 December 1944 when the plane takes off from the north-east of England in the direction of the Ruhr area. The seven young men on board have so far survived the war unscathed. Today their luck runs out.
The tragic event is forgotten for almost 70 years. Then an inconspicuous piece of wreckage in Düsseldorf's Wildpark brings movement to the story. Archaeological investigations uncover debris from the bomber, contemporary witnesses remember. Who were the men on board? Why did the plane crash? The worldwide research provides exciting original documents and leads to the relatives and descendants of the crew. An emotional journey through the turmoil of war and an exciting documentation of German history!
