This publication uncoveres the fates of the U.S. 8th AF units equipped with the P-47 since the introduction of the aircraft to the fighter groups assigned to VIII Fighter Command to the end of February 1944. The author indicates the impact on the air warfare over occupied Europe made by Thunderbolts, which after introduction of drop tanks were able to defend the bombers against the Luftwaffe fighters even over Germany.
