The B-52 was first flown in 1955 and has become a symbol of deterrence and long range for the American Air Force. The aircraft was designed as a long-range nuclear bomber, but due to its versatility it was used in Vietnam as a heavy "bomb truck" and during Operation Desert Storm as a carrier for air-to-ground missiles. After the first Gulf War, the B-52s continued to be used in combat, for example in air support missions during patrols against Al-Qaeda insurgents and Taliban forces in Afghanistan from 2001 to 2003, and have confirmed their reputation as America's "big stick" through deterrence in situations such as the tensions between China and Taiwan in 2023. In this illustrated book, fighter expert Peter E.
