For the first time a Western publication presents the Soviet parachute troops of World War II with such a wealth of detail in terms of uniform, equipment and armament. In addition to the 900 actual colour photos of the uniforms and equipment, the reader will find here no less than 400 contemporary bw photos,. most of them not yet published, which in interaction with the text not only depict the change and development of the equipment of the Soviet paratroopers, but also document the history of this troop from its beginnings to the end of the war in 1945.
Furthermore, there are illustrations of a large number of insignia and documents that reflect the structure of the Soviet paratroopers within the Red Army. Short biographies and portraits of the most important personalities associated with the formation, development and deployment of the Soviet paratroops in WW2. The role of the paratrooper in culture and art, which was very popular at the time, and its importance as a propaganda icon for mobilising the youth and masses in the fight against the Germans.
