On 2 March 1941, in the nineteenth year of the Fascist era, Benito Mussolini, First Marshal of the Empire and Duce of Fascism, landed in Tirana, Albania, officially to inspect the front, but in reality to witness the planned Italian offensive in the Desnizza Valley, which was intended to seal the motto "A primavera verrà il bello", uttered by Mussolini during the counter-offensive with which the Greeks had driven back the Italian invaders across the Albanian border and even threatened Vlora. The offensive failed, as did the Greek counterattack, which in turn was stopped by the Italians, leading to a stalemate on the front. Mussolini remained at the front for just over two weeks, visiting troops, forward positions and field hospitals, reporting to the commanders and then leaving bitterly disappointed by what he had seen. That was the end of the parallel war.
