In the formerly sparsely populated regions along the German, Polish and Baltic coasts of the Baltic Sea, the National Socialists built a multitude of military and civilian facilities, such as the missile test sites in Peenemünde and in Leba, the gigantic "Rügen seaside resort" in Prora or the torpedo testing facility near Gdansk. Martin Kaule's critical account provides information on these and many other legacies of the Nazi regime between Flensburg and Usedom, Swinoujscie and Gdansk, Kaliningrad (Königsberg) and Liepaja in Latvia, tells what has become of them, where memorials and museums exist to commemorate Nazi crimes and when they can be visited. Various maps and more than 220 historical and current photos help in the search for clues.
