Description
After the end of SS terror, the East Westphalian village of Wewelsburg was initially marked by displacement and continued life from spring 1945 onwards. This volume presents new research on the history of the Niederhagen concentration camp, the prisoners and SS guards. Where were the concentration camp's dead buried and how did the concentration camp prisoners experience their liberation on 2 April 1945?
The early hunt by the British military administration for war criminals is illuminated, as is the "atonement burial" initiated by the American soldiers. The cycle of paintings by Jo Glahé, inaugurated in 1950, represents an early commemoration in Wewelsburg. The continued use of the camp grounds as a refugee camp and later housing estate is outlined, as are the architectural-historical investigations of the structural remains. Volume 13 of the "Schriftenreihe des Kreismuseums Wewelsburg".
