Thanks to the testimonies of dozens of veterans, to the existing march diaries, to the many unpublished documents and archives collected, it was possible to restore with precision the terrible engagements of the 10th SS-Panzerdivision "Frundsberg" from the Galician plains in Ukraine (Buczacz sector) to the Bocage in Normandy. Engaged late in the last days of June 1944, the "Frundsberg"-Division fought in the sectors around hills 112 and 113 near Caen for more than a month before being thrown further west, in the direction of Vire. The rapid deterioration of the German military situation after the operation at Mortain led to the strategic withdrawal of the Division, which would now engage in rearguard combat. Barenton, Fromentel, Putanges, Trun, Saint-Lambert, Mont-Ormel, so many localities that sounded the death knell for the units of the "Frundsberg"-Division managing to extract themselves from the Falaise Pocket. The withdrawal turned into a general retreat for the German army and only a third of the initial troops of the 10th SS-Panzerdivision "Frundsberg" were able to cross the Seine.

The SS Division "Frundsberg", which was deployed late in the last days of June 1944, fought for over a month in Normandy in the sectors around coordinates 112 and 113 near Caen before being thrown further west towards Vire. The rapid deterioration of the German military situation after the operation at Mortain led to the strategic withdrawal of the division, which now had to fight rearguard battles. Barenton, Fromentel, Putanges, Trun, Saint-Lambert, Mont-Ormel - all these places spelt the end for the units of the "Frundsberg" division, which only just managed to escape from the Falaise pocket. The sum of never before published documents, enriched by an exceptional iconography with more than 800 photographs and documents (contemporary photos, portraits, pay books and archive documents, ...) - most of them unpublished - constitutes an indispensable documentation for a better understanding of the deployment of this division in Galicia and during the battles of the Battle of Normandy.
