105 Days in the Cauldron of Cholm. Contemporary history in pictures. In this illustrated book, former war correspondent Richard Muck documents the fierce battle for Cholm at the beginning of 1942 using his own photographs. At the end of January 1942, about 6000 German soldiers under Major General Theodor Scherer were trapped by the Red Army in the town of Cholm. For 105 days the German troops were able to hold out against the superior Soviet troops until the ring around Cholm could be blown up by German relief troops and the trapped could be liberated. Many photos, large format. 128 pages.
