Unpublished personal notes of the Field Marshal General and Chief of the Supreme Command of the Wehrmacht during his imprisonment in Nuremberg. Among the officers appointed Field Marshal General by Adolf Hitler, Wilhelm Keitel was held in low esteem; most soon heard the word "Lakeitel", i.e. lackey, Hitler's servant. But even those who agree with this judgement soon find themselves confronted with some questions:
- How could an officer get into Keitel's high and influential position if he was really only a lackey?
- How did the ,,lackey" try to preserve a minimum of self-respect?
- How did Keitel judge his activity at the top of the ,,Third Reich" before himself and before the court?
- How is his conduct before the Nuremberg Tribunal to be judged?
- How is the sentence passed against him, i.e. his execution, to be judged?
Some of these questions, moreover, concern directly or indirectly all the Nuremberg defendants and, moreover, the German elites from politics, the Wehrmacht, the churches, business, science and the arts of that time.
