A road trip in a Willys Jeep, along the landing beaches in the footsteps of those who risked their lives to cross the seas to restore freedom in France and Europe. Alice Bertrand, photographer, and Claire Larquemain, author, travel through the five Allied sectors of the landing: Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword Beach. The "gris navy" jeep takes them from Sainte-Mère-Église in the Cotentin - the village of the American paratroopers - to the famous Pegasus Bridge in Bénouville in Calvados. This road trip is a journey into the past and the present, passing symbolic places that still bear the stigmata of the largest military operation of all time. This richly illustrated book offers an original and different reading of this chapter of history that changed the face of Normandy and the whole of Europe forever. The photographs of then and now are juxtaposed with texts that combine historical narratives, unusual anecdotes and portraits of men and women whose commitment will never be forgotten.
