Friedrich Nikolaus von Scholtz is considered one of the most capable German military commanders of the First World War. He distinguished himself as early as August 1914 as commanding general of the 8th Army in the Battle of Tannenberg. In the fall of 1915, he took command of the army division named after him at Dünaburg on the Eastern Front, and from April 1917, he led the Scholtz Army Group on the Macedonian Front. This biography by historian Ferdinand von Notz was published in 1937ten years after Scholtz's deathand offers a profound overview of the general's career and military achievements.
