Description
Volume 2 of the series "Armour and Weapon". The English Civil War has long been regarded as a conflict in which weaponry played a subordinate role as a decisive factor. A look at the historical sources reveals a different picture: artillery and highly technical siege warfare were essential components of the war between Royalists and Parliamentary supporters. This study describes the development of artillery under the early Stuart kings and during the Civil War, the supply of artillery with the necessary materials - above all, of course, gunpowder - before and during the war, and the use of artillery in sieges (using the examples of Pontefract Castle, Gloucester and Lathom) and battles (using the examples of Edgehill and Marston Moor).
