Description
Illustrated with a large number of reproductions of paintings, uniform illustrations and actual colour photographs of the scenes of that time, the 71st issue of "Gloire & Empire" deals with the military events at sea in connection with Napoleon Bonaparte's Egyptian campaign in 1797/1798. Against the background of this main theme, the booklet deals in particular with the role of the French navy in the period of the revolutionary terror (Terreur), its importance and actions throughout the Egyptian campaign, as well as the maritime climax of this enterprise, namely the naval battle of Abukir, where the French fleet suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the British under Admiral Horatio Nelson.
