Description
Very richly illustrated, mostly in colour, the 80th issue of "Gloire & Empire" deals with the beginnings of the man without whom this magazine would not exist. Napoleon Bonaparte's early years are described, from his childhood on Corsica, through his military training and first years as a soldier, to his family's flight from his native island to France in 1793.
In addition to the main theme of Napoleon Bonaparte's beginnings, the issue also contains the series of articles familiar from previous issues, in which a particular contemporary painting is analysed ("The Surrender of Deputy Commander Binot at Pondichéry on 11 September 1803) by Louis Hippolyte. The surrender of the deputy commander Binot at Pondichéry on 11 September 1803) by Louis Hippolyte Bellangé), brief biographies of the "great Corsican's" confidants (Bernard Germain Étienne de La Ville-sur-Illone de Lacépède) and opponents (General Pavel A. Toutchkov), and a description of the armies of France's allies and/or enemies in terms of uniform and organisation (this issue focuses on the cavalry of the Portuguese Legion in French service).
