Easily played with. The Shetland pony originally comes from the Shetland Islands. The animals were brought to the British mainland during the industrial revolution and used as pit ponies in underground mines. Today, the robust ponies enjoy great popularity as first riding horses for children and as strong and enduring driving horses.
