A volume from the "Stackpole Photo Series". In chronological order, this illustrated book describes the operations of the American 8th Air Fleet in Northwest and Central Europe and, above all, the considerable losses of aircraft and, consequently, crews in the air war against Germany that raged from 1942-1945. The exclusively contemporary photographic material shows the wreckage of aircraft at the British air bases, crashing aircraft and the sometimes considerable damage caused to the aircraft of the "Mighty Eighth" by anti-aircraft and fighter fire. The captions explain the background of the damage and total losses shown.
