Colour photos from World War 2 are relatively rare, and even rarer are those showing Waffen-SS units. The SS war correspondent Mitschke was in possession of a colour camera, and so he took about 40 of the coveted colour photos during his time with the SS Division "Nord". When Mitschke was assigned to the SS Division "Nord", it was serving on the Lapland Front in Finland. The photos, published here for the first time, show a varied panorama of everyday wartime life on the Lapland Front against the backdrop of the forests of Karelia.
