The hard-fought Second Arakan Campaign was the second attempt by Allied forces to advance into the Arakan coastal region of western Burma after a failed first attempt in early 1943. The fighting shattered the myth of Japanese invincibility, which had paralysed the Allies for more than two years, and for the first time offered the prospect of successful offensive operations against the Japanese in Burma.
