The story of the new-generation fighter aircraft that emerged from the designs of Mikoyan and Sukhy began in the mid-1970s, when the Soviet aerospace and defence industry embarked on three extensive research and development programmes. Their aim was to develop new-generation fighters, combat aircraft and strategic bombers that could enter service with the Soviet Air Force and air defence forces in the 1990s.

The author drew on publicly available information from various sources, including press releases from Russian aerospace companies and recordings of press conferences held at various air shows.

The book is accompanied by a large number of documentary photographs.

The publication on military aviation describes the development of two modern fighter aircraft models that were developed on behalf of the Soviet aviation industry in the 1970s. Of the models designed by Mikoyan, Sukhoi and Yakovlev, Mikoyan's twin-engine tactical aircraft MiG and Sukhoi's S-37 were finally realised.
