The development of rocket projectiles began as early as 1932, which were first fired from aircraft and shortly afterwards from artillery launchers. Since this development proved to be extremely promising, these projectile launchers were quickly introduced into the Red Army. Since projectile launchers are capable of firing a large number of projectiles as salvos within a short period of time, which, due to the intended dispersion, impact on a relatively large area, they inflict high personnel and material losses on the enemy troops - the highly demoralising effect on the enemy should not be underestimated either.
For this reason, even before the reorganisation of the barracked People's Police into the National People's Army in 1956, the armed units of the GDR had the first projectile launchers. This booklet presents the projectile launchers introduced into the NVA such as BM13, BM 24, BM 21 "Grad", RM70 and their sub-variants in words and pictures.
