Cast from the original moulds of the Offizin Söhlke/Berlin. Excellent engravings, many beautiful groups! With painting notes.
Bullfighting (Spanish: corrida de toros or tauromaquia, Portuguese: tourada, corrida de touros, French: courses de taureaux) is a ritual whose content is the fight of a human against a bull. The most famous bullfights take place in Spain, but also in Portugal, southern France and in former Spanish colonies and Spanish-influenced regions in Latin America.

Since the above saying is true for all times - who wants to doubt that? - the Leipzig collector friend R. Tschöpe generously transferred the statement of the saying to other fashionable manifestations of the ladies' world and shows them in appropriate costumes standing in front of the mirror.
From right to left we see: The Biedermeier lady, the contemporary "proportioned" by fast food, the country girl, the dancer, the buttoned-up older lady - or box? - in the style of the Victorian era.
If desired, the complimenting Mephisto with mirror can be placed with each of the ladies.
Gravure: W. Otto.

Arab women play a plucked instrument, carry water or pour coffee, a man busies himself with his hunting falcon, camel riders and beaters come and go. Burden camels wait equanimously, camels and a camel foal camp in front of the tents. This series, which shows traditional life, is in a way timelessly relatable. Incl. large tent.
The dromedary is a one-humped Arabian camel, hence camel rider.

Series list for 211/144
No. 211-ar 20 (1x) Camel, with woman's tent and guide
No. 211-ar 12 (1x) Camel, lying down
No. 211-ar 2 (1x) Camel rider, standing
No. 211-ar 11 (1x) Camel, standing
No. 211-ar 9 (1x) Arabian woman, kneeling, pouring coffee
No. 211-ar 19 (1x) Arab girl, sitting, playing lute
No. 211-ar 10 (1x) Arab man, standing
No. 211-ar 8 (1x) Arab, kneeling with falcon
No. 211-ar 18 (1x) Arab girl, carrying water jug
No. 211-ar 1 (1x) Camel rider, turning his head
No. 211-ar 7 (1x) Camel, standing, holding, hf
No. 211-ar 17 (1x) Arabian woman, carrying water jug
No. 211-ar 6 (1x) Camel, lying down
No. 211-ar 16 (1x) Camel foal
No. 211-ar 5 (1x) Camel with baggage, running
No. 211-ar 15 (1x) Camel, running
No. 211-ar 4 (1x) Camel driver, running
No. 211-ar 14 (1x) Arabian tent, large, frontal
No. 211-ar 3 (1x) Camel rider, running
No. 211-ar 13 (1x) Camel, standing, p

They are hunters and fishermen. The hunters move out from permanent settlements of stone houses, which are usually also trading posts. During the short polar summer, tents usually serve as accommodation, otherwise the well-known igloo made of snow blocks.
The well-known dog sled serves as a means of transport for travel and hunting, and on the Arctic Ocean the kayak or the women's boat ("Umich").
Our series shows Eskimos catching seals at the ice hole and hunting walrus from a kayak, various hunters using harpoon, spear, bow and arrow (e.g. hunting polar bears) and fishing at the ice hole, Eskimos building igloos, returning from hunting, dragging prey, as guides of dog sleds. Women and children, dogs and accessories (igloos, drying racks for fish and meat) complete the series.

Eskimo is the collective name for the indigenous peoples of the northern polar region, whose settlement area stretches from northeast Siberia across the Bering Strait and the Arctic regions of Alaska and Canada to Greenland. The two main groups are the Inuit (Eastern Eskimos) in northern Canada and Greenland and the Yupik (Western Eskimos) on the Russian Chukchi Peninsula and in Alaska.

Series list for 211/142
No. 211-np 20 (1x) Bearded seal, lying on land
No. 211-np 28 (1x) Killer whale
No. 211-np 3a (1x) Eskimo at ice hole, fishing
No. 211-np 5d2 (1x) Sled dog
No. 211-np 6 (1x) Polar dog, standing
No. 211-np 14 (1x) Polar bear, baby, p
No. 211-np 20a (1x) Bearded seal
No. 211-np 29 (1x) Killer whale
No. 211-np 4 (1x) Eskimo, carrying ice block for igloo construction
No. 211-np 5d3 (1x) Sled dog
No. 211-np 6a (1x) Polar dog, sitting
No. 211-np 15 (1x) Polar bear, baby, p
No. 211-np 20b (1x) Folding cap, lying on land
No. 211-np 2a (1x) Eskimo building an igloo, engraved on one side
No. 211-np 40 (1x) Polar bear, attacking
No. 211-np 5d4 (1x) Sled dog
No. 211-np 6c (1x) Dogs (3), in stock
No. 211-np 16 (1x) Polar bear, with captured seal
No. 211-np 21 (1x) Rack with pieces of meat
No. 211-np 3 (1x) Eskimo at ice hole, fishing with spear
No. 211-np 5 (1x) Eskimo, cutting a block of ice to size
No. 211-np 5e (1x) Sledge
No. 211-np 7 (1x) Eskimo, in kayak hunting walrus
No. 211-np 17 (1x) Polar bear, turning head
No. 211-np 22 (1x) Musk ox, standing, f
No. 211-np 30 (1x) Killer whale
No. 211-np 50 (1x) Eskimo family fishing, with dogs
No. 211-np 5f (1x) Eskimo woman, with child on her back
No. 211-np 1 (1x) Snow hut (igloo)
No. 211-np 7a (1x) Walrus, in the water, fleeing
No. 211-np 18 (1x) Polar bear, standing, 3/4-p
No. 211-np 23 (1x) Musk ox, standing, 3/4-f
No. 211-np 36 (1x) Eskimo, shooting with bow and arrow
No. 211-np 5a (1x) Eskimo, catching seals at the ice hole
No. 211-np 5g (1x) Eskimo boy, with bow and arrow
No. 211-np 10 (1x) Walrus, on ice floe
No. 211-np 8 (1x) Walrus, in the water
No. 211-np 19 (1x) Folding cap, lying on land
No. 211-np 24 (1x) Musk ox, turning head
No. 211-np 37 (1x) Eskimo, carrying seal in tow
No. 211-np 5b (1x) Eskimo, shooting with bow and arrow
No. 211-np 5h (1x) Eskimo, kneeling, hunting with harpoon
No. 211-np 11 (1x) Walrus, lying on a cliff
No. 211-np 9 (1x) Walrus, on ice floe
No. 211-np 1a (1x) Snow hut under construction
No. 211-np 25 (1x) Musk ox, standing, p
No. 211-np 38 (1x) Eskimo, carrying kayak
No. 211-np 5c (1x) Eskimo, dog sledge driver
No. 211-np 5i (1x) Eskimo, sitting, returning from hunting
No. 211-np 12 (1x) Walrus, lying down
No. 211-np 2 (1x) Eskimo building an igloo
No. 211-np 26 (1x) Polar bear, sitting, p
No. 211-np 39 (1x) Eskimo, standing, stabbing with spear
No. 211-np 5d1 (1x) Sledge dog
No. 211-np 5k (1x) Eskimo, lying down, fishing
No. 211-np 13 (1x) Polar bear, running, profile
