On the left is Captain Clark Gable, who served in the Eight Air Force and actually flew a number of combat missions over enemy territory during the war. In this set, he's obviously on ground duties and meeting a B-17 Pilot who has just landed his bullet-riddled plane after a deadly daylight bombing mission somewhere over Germany in 1943 or '44.

The term 'Grease Monkey' was common American slang for an engineer or a mechanic usually engaged in motor or aircraft repair and maintenance... It was not regarded as a derogatory term and was widely accepted and used by the relevant engineers and mechanics themselves.

This is the second version of our classic Curtiss P40 Flying Tiger warbird. For several years now K&C collectors around the world, especially in Asia, have been requesting another release of this great aircraft model... well here it is! When the American Volunteer Group was formed its fighter aircraft came from the Curtiss assembly line producing P40 models for Britains Royal Air Force in North Africa. Part of this British order (100 aircraft) were crated and sent to Burma during the Spring of 1941. Once in Rangoon, they were assembled and sent on to China where they had their special markings added. Our K&C model is numbered #77 and served with the Flying Tigers 3rd Pursuit Squadron and comes with a sliding canopy and rotating propeller.

This is the third version of the CURTISS P-40 "Tomahawk" that K&C has made. Previous models have included an RAF "Desert Air Force" one and the classic "Flying Tigers" version. The new model is in the standard olive drab and light grey colour scheme typical of US Army Air Corps aircraft at this time. Our model bears the code number "160" of the aircraft 2nd Lieut . George Welch flew on 7 December and belongs to the 15th Pursuit Squadron. The Air Corps officially credited Lieut. Welch with 4 "kills" and several others damaged. This "Pearl Harbor P-40" comes complete with a standing figure of a US Army Air Corps pilot wearing a non standard "Hawaiian" shirt over his khakis and carrying a.45 Colt Automatic.

Another top ace of VMF-214 was Chris Magee (1917-1995) a colourful character credited with 9 "kills" he was awarded the Navy Cross. After the war he dabbled in bootlegging and flew for Israel in the 1948 War of Independence. With his rakish moustache, baseball cap and easy grin he was a popular member of the squadron.
