The Praetorian Guard has been vilified and lorded by historians, one thing is right, they were a hotbed of political repression and intrigue. It is difficult to think of a modern analogy. Possibly Saddams Republican Guard, NKVD and we often hear WW2 German SS. They certainly had the same basic role, the leaders personal army, rather than the army of the state.
The name Praetorian dates back to the Republican period, and was used to refer to the troops who provided immediate protection for the commanding general who was usually a praetor. Admittedly consuls were the supreme military commanders, with a praetor or pro-praetor who had the rank to command an independent force in the field. The Republican Armies Praetorians were usually picked men, regarded as reliable and paid more than ordinary troops, but, as far we know, they werent trained or equipped any differently than other legionaries. They were essentially similar to the household troops which accompanied later kings onto the battlefield.

How often the Praetorian Guard saw action is also a hotly contested discussion. However, in the Year of the Four Emperors, AD69, they fought at the Battle of Bedriacum for Otho. Under Domitian and Trajan, the guard took part in wars from Dacia to Mesopotamia, while with Marcus Aurelius, years were spent on the Danubian frontier during the Marcomannic Wars.

The standard bearer (signifer) carrying the centurial standard. The signifer carried the signum, a spear shaft decorated with medallions and often topped with an open hand. The open hand symbolized the oath of loyalty taken by the soldiers. The signifer was also responsible for the financial administration of the unit, including the pay and savings of those in the unit, and was paid twice the basic wage of a regular soldier.

Girl in a Tub. The previous versions of the girl in the tub sold out so quickly that she did not even have enough time to dry herself and get dressed! This is a figure we were asked about whether we had left in stock so often, we decided to release a second version, but with some distinct differences. Firstly, each set has her own washing/rinsing jug and this lady has long hair, whereas the original had short hair. There are only 25 of each version available and these figures can be used in just about any era from Roman times right through to modern.

The Kings Bodyguard for Scotland, is a ceremonial unit that serves as the Sovereigns bodyguard in Scotlanda role it has performed since 1822 during the reign of King George IV when the company provided a personal bodyguard to the King on his visit to Scotland. It is currently known as the Kings Bodyguard for Scotland or, more often and colloquially, The Royal Company. It is located in Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland. The Royal Company of Archers has a long history in Scotland as a body that celebrated both the recreation and talent of local archers.
As a body established by the Monarch, the company has a long history of unique prizes, influential supporters, and ceremonial roles. It has an associated charity, the Royal Company of Archers Charitable Trust, dedicated to helping disadvantaged individuals with their health and wellbeing in Scotland.

The main duties of the company are now ceremonial, and since the 1822 appointment as the Sovereigns Body Guard in Scotland for George IVs visit to Edinburgh, include attending the Sovereign at various functions during the annual Royal Visit to Scotland when he or she approaches within five miles of Edinburgh, including the Order of the Thistle, investitures at the High Kirk of Edinburgh, the Royal Garden Party and the Ceremony of the Keys at the Palace of Holyrood, and the presentation of new colours to Scottish regiments. Most recently the Royal Company of Archers were in the public spotlight when the late Queen Elizabeth II died whilst in Scotland and they provided a guard on vigil as the Queen lay in state.

WW2 was not always about the flashy big cats, continually breaking down and always hogging the glory. The Germans, during WW2, had their work horses and one of the main variants was the Panzer IV.
The Panzer IV was the most produced German WW2 tank and the second-most numerous German fully tracked armoured fighting vehicle of the War. With 8,553 Panzer IVs [all versions] manufactured, only surpassed by the StuG III, with 10,086 built. While also being the most exported tank of the period, with over 300 being sold to Finland, Czechoslovakia and Spain. Seeing action with the Syrian army long after their larger counterparts were out of service, Panzer IVs served the Syrian Army in the 1967 Arab Israeli conflict.

You have the opportunity to collect 3 versions from the German WW2 Panzer Lehr Regiment, which fought on the Eastern and Western fronts, playing a pivotal role in the Normandy battles. All our new Panzer IVs have Zimmerit, which was a paste-like covering, used on mid- and late-war German tanks and armoured fighting vehicles in WW2. Creating a hard layer covering the metal armour, giving enough separation that anti-tank magnetic mines attached would not stick to the vehicle.

All our Panzer IVs have different commanders and the side skirts are individual, there are many different ways to display your Panzer IVs, with full skirts, no skirts or with missing skirt side pieces.
