While rankings and comparisons may vary, one name consistently appears among the top contenders: the Panzer V Panther. Developed in response to an unexpected threat, it quickly rose to become one of the most feared and respected vehicles of the conflictcapable of engaging heavier tanks and, in many respects, foreshadowing the concepts that would come to dominate post-war tank technology. The vehicle's official designation was *Panzerkampfwagen V Panther*, assigned the military identification number Sd.Kfz. 171. Its development was driven largely by encounters with the Soviet T-34 during the invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941. Despite its undeniable qualities, the Panther's entry into service was overshadowed by significant problems. Most of these defects were resolved between late 1943 and early 1944; from that point onward, the Panther established itself as one of the most feared tanks of the entire conflict.

At the center of this analysis stands the 4th Independent Armoured Brigadeone of the relatively few British formations deployed across multiple theaters of war over the course of the conflict. The book posits that the Brigades extensive operational reach was largely predicated on its ability to build and consistently maintain a high level of combat power. To explore this, the study analyzes three key areas at the tactical level of the British Army between 1943 and 1945: leadership, morale, and organizational learning. Drawing on extensive archival researchincluding previously unpublished documentsas well as interviews with eyewitnesses, "Tanks in Unexpected Places" reconstructs the history, role, and organizational culture of the 4th Armoured Brigade. In doing so, the work addresses crucial questions: Why was this Brigade repeatedly entrusted with the most arduous tasks, and how did it produce three future Chiefs of the General Staff? The book is aimed at historians, military experts, and anyone interested in the British Army during the Second World War.

The interwar period demonstrates that each nation approached the future utilization of the tankas well as the specific types of tanks requiredin its own unique way. These were by no means arbitrary undertakings, for the investments in tank development and production were substantial, and a subsequent shift to a different doctrine or tank type was simply not an option. This book traces precisely that quest. However, the fact that it was the Germans, of all peoplewith the phenomenon of "Blitzkrieg"who ultimately discovered the right combination of doctrine and tanks in no way diminishes the intriguing ideas, efforts, and decisions of the other nations. The career of Heinz Guderian vividly illustrates all those debates that culminated in the development, rise, and eventual decline of the German armored forces both before and during the Second World War. For this reason, he serves as the central thread of this book, around which the history of tank development is woven.

Throughout their five-year operational historyfrom late 1967 to late 1972Vietnam Gun Trucks were undoubtedly the most significant wheeled vehicles employed during the Vietnam War. They were utilized primarily for convoy security and the defense of military installation perimeters, though they undertook other missions as well. It was originally believed that only 150 of these vehicles existed; however, this book now features a roster listing the names of 563 Gun Trucks, along with over 200 rare, previously unpublished photographs of the trucks themselves, unit insignia, veterans, and much moremost of them in color. This volume showcases not only the ubiquitous "Deuces" (2.5-ton trucks) and 5-ton models but also more unusual Gun Trucks, including vehicles with wooden armor, M37 cargo trucks, Jeeps, trucks equipped with quad .50-caliber machine guns, and other specially constructed trucks. For this book, James Lyles has compiled an entirely new collection of veteran accounts, ensuring there are no repetitions and no disappointments. The photographic material was provided by the very veterans who manned these Gun Trucks between 1967 and 1972.

During the Cold War, the Leopard ranked among the most important main battle tanks in NATO's arsenal. The Leopard 1 was the first main battle tank of the post-war era to be independently developed and produced in West Germany. Work on this tank type began as early as the early 1950s at Porsche System-Engineering Ltd. In 1965, the Leopard entered service with the Bundeswehr. Since then, more than 6,000 units of the Leopard have been manufacturedin numerous variants and stages of modernization, in both armed and unarmed configurations. Beyond Germany (where it remained in service until 2003), this tank type was also adopted as a main battle tank by several other major armed forces, including those of Italy, Australia, and Turkey. Throughout the Cold Warand beyondthe tank represented a key weapon in the NATO arsenal. This volume begins with an account of the development, procurement, and production history that led to the creation of the Leopard. Subsequently, the author details the tank's major modifications and variants, covering both German and foreign service. Finally, the reader is presented with a detailed, component-by-component technical description of this tank type. The text is accompanied by more than 200 illustrations, many of which are in color.

The BTR-50 was the first tracked armored personnel carrier to enter service with the Soviet Army. Based on the same chassis and powertrain as the amphibious light tank PT-76, the BTR-50 was designed as an armored personnel carrier andinitiallyalso as a gun-carrying vehicle, enabling medium-caliber divisional and anti-tank guns to be fired directly from the vehicle during offensive operations. Changes in nuclear doctrine led to the replacement of the originally open-topped BTR-50P by the fully enclosed BTR-50PK, a transition that saw the abandonment of its original role as a gun platform. However, the BTR-50 family evolved far beyond the standard personnel carrier configuration; for instance, the BTR-50PU series was widely deployed by the Soviet Army as a command vehicle, alongside other specialized variantsincluding the MTP maintenance vehicle and the UR-67 mine-clearing system. Moreover, the BTR-50 was the specific tracked armored personnel carrier used by the Soviet Army to train in combined arms tactics. This provided the trainingand subsequently the combatexperience that ultimately led to the development of a new class of armored fighting vehicles: the BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicle, in which the crew was able to engage in combat from within the vehicle before dismounting to fight on foot. The BTR-50 series remained the backbone of the Soviet Army's tracked armored personnel carrier fleet until it was superseded by the BMP-1 in the late 1960s. The BTR-50 was exported on a large scale and saw combat in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia; surprisingly large numbers remain in active service to this day. This book was written and illustrated based on original Russian and Ukrainian sources.

<img src='https://www.zinnfigur.com/out/pictures/generated/product/1/390_245_75/561_5973.jpg' border=0 align='left' hspace=5>A volume in the "Technology @ War" series. The MT-LB armored multi-purpose tracked vehicle entered service with the Soviet Army in 1964. The primary role of the MT-LB was to serve as an armored artillery tractor, towing the 100mm MT-12 anti-tank gun as well as other artillery pieces, while housing the gun crew and ammunition under armored protection. However, the vehicle proved to be extremely versatile and was subsequently utilized extensively as a chassis for a wide range of specialized vehiclesincluding variants adapted for operations in snow and swampy terrain, artillery reconnaissance, technical maintenance, and mine clearance. The MT-LB family was expanded with the introduction of the enlarged MT-LBu series, which served primarily as a platform for a variety of 1V-series artillery command and control vehicles (NATO designation: ACRV). In the post-Soviet era, the MT-LB underwent further modernization and combat upgrades, evolving into an infantry fighting vehicle (BMP) for use in low-intensity conflicts. Equipped with armament comparable to that of the Cold War-era Soviet BMP-2, the MT-LB found a renewed purpose in the 21st century. The MT-LB played a significant role in the Soviet Army, the armed forces of the Warsaw Pact, and the post-Soviet armies of the former Soviet republics. Total production across all variants exceeded 55,000 vehicles, making the unassuming MT-LB one of the most widely produced Soviet armored vehicles of all time. The MT-LB was exported on a massive scale and saw combat service in numerous conflicts worldwide; Most recently, it has been deployed by both sides of the ongoing war in Ukraine. Written and illustrated based on original Russian and Ukrainian sources, this book offers a detailed examination of one of the most widely producedalbeit often overlookedSoviet armored vehicles of all time.

This is the first comprehensive book to illuminate the full scope of this war from a military perspective. The conflict began with the Hamas attack launched from the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, yet it spanned two years and seven frontsthereby proving to be the longest and most destructive conflict in the region. A brief historical overview places the war within its context, with the Israeli-Palestinian dispute at its center. The expansion of the war to the so-called "Support Front" carried hostilities beyond the Gaza Strip. Clashes in the north with Hezbollah triggered a Third Lebanon War. Limited combat operations in Syria also included strikes against Iranian elements. This led to extensive exchanges of fire with Iran, which ultimately culminated in the Iranian-Israeli War. Moreover, this war was characterized by direct U.S. involvement, aimed at dismantling any nascent Iranian nuclear weapons program. Clashes with Houthi rebels in Yemen dragged on over a prolonged period. Israeli combat operations against militant groups in the West Bank, as well as violence perpetrated by settlers, reached an unprecedented scale. The impact of U.S. support for Israeli operationsboth in material and diplomatic termsis examined in depth. Furthermore, the consequences of the war for Israel are outlined, including extensive mobilization, economic downturn, material damage, financial costs, and international embargoes. Global condemnation of Israel regarding alleged war crimes and genocide against the Palestinians is also addressed. Additionally, the complex diplomatic processes and the challenging of established norms of conduct are presented. These developments led to political and social upheaval in Israel, which, in turn, impacted the conduct of the war and efforts toward ceasefire negotiations. Finally, the social, economic, and political repercussions of the war are discussed, supplemented by an assessment of the prospects for future regional stability.
