After the war, the need for a powerful amphibious fighting vehicle with sufficient firepower to take and hold a bridgehead became abundantly clear. The PT-76 armoured personnel carrier was to become the backbone of Cold War amphibious operations. It served in the Soviet Army, but also in Warsaw Pact forces such as the Polish People's Army and the NVA of East Germany - this is the first comprehensive account in this subject area.

Soviet trucks of World War 2 in Red Army and German Wehrmacht service. The Soviet Union had a fleet of Gaz and ZiS light trucks at the outbreak of WW2. These were easy to produce in large numbers and could be operated by any soldier. It was the mass production of these trucks, despite a lack of raw materials and under wartime conditions, that made them so unique. This publication is the first to give a comprehensive account of the history and variants of these unusual trucks in the service of the Red Army and also as looted vehicles with the German Wehrmacht.

In the Soviet Union, the Red Square parades were an annual spectacle eagerly awaited by foreign military observers, as they showcased the latest Soviet weaponry. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, these parades were abandoned. It was not until May 2008 that Russian tanks, armoured personnel carriers, guns and anti-aircraft vehicles again thundered across Red Square - the first parade of a new Russia in the 21st century. The event was repeated in 2009. This publication shows the Russian military vehicles from the parades of both years in large-format photos, allowing a close look at the latest Russian land forces weaponry.

The Soviet Union stands out from this group because of the strong push for military applications there. Aerosans were used by the Tsarist troops in World War I, in the Russian Civil War, in the Russian-Finnish Winter War from 1939 to 1940 and by the Red Army during the winter months of World War II. Due to the climatic and topographical conditions prevailing in the Soviet Union, the Aerosans proved to be particularly suitable compared to wheeled and tracked vehicles. This work describes the aerosans of the Soviet armed forces as well as the development and use of Finnish and German propeller-driven sleds until the end of the war. This is the most complete work on the subject of military aerosans ever published.

These vehicles came from Red Army wartime production and were soon supplemented by post-war Polish production vehicles. During its service in the armed forces of the German Democratic Republic (DDR) the T 34/85 was modernised to German T 34/85m standards. Additionally several German-designed T 34-based armoured recovery vehicles and specialised vehicles were introduced. Alongside these served SU 85 and SU 100 self-propelled guns. This publication comprehensively describes the various production batches of the T 34 in the DDR, the modernisation efforts, the variants and last but not least the story of the T 34-equipped units of the Kasernierte Volkspolizei (KVP) and Nationale Volksarmee (NVA) of the DDR.

The T-35 tanks were readied to move and bombed up on the training ground of the unit's home base at Gorodok, southwest of the city of Lvov in the Ukraine. The whole heavy brigade with its 67th and 68th Tank Regiments and other corps-level units faced their fate in the Great Patriotic War. The T-35s headed towards the enemy and the two regiments lost all (!) of them between 24 June and 09 July, in barely two weeks. Despite its limited value in combat in 1941 the multi-turreted T-35 had perfectly fulfilled its task to convince the Soviet population of the vast capabilities of the Soviet State under Iosif Stalin in the 1930s. Its sheer size and massive armament did also not fail to leave a deep impression in the minds of Western military leaders. This publication for the first time covers the full story of the flawed T-35 "Giants of the Eastern Front", their development, technology, production batches and the fateful combat history, illustrated mostly with hitherto unpublished photographs and many graphics.
Additionally the use of the T-35 in the German Wehrmacht is documented.

Despite its low combat value in 1941, the T-35 multi-turret tank had completely fulfilled its mission in the 1930s of convincing its own population of the capabilities of the Soviet Union under Josef Stalin at parades. At the same time, due to its sheer size and impressive armament, it also succeeded in demonstrating the power of "red" tank construction to Western military personnel. This publication is the first to comprehensively illustrate the history, technology, construction lots and the fateful combat deployment of the Soviet "colossi of the Eastern Front" in a Western publication with largely previously unpublished photos. In addition, the use of the T-35 in the Wehrmacht is also documented for the first time.
