The Soviet Tank that Paved the Road to Victory
Prototypes - Pre-Series - KV-1 - KV-2
And the German KW I/KW II Beutepanzer Captured Tanks

Previously, the Soviet KV (Kliment "Klim" Voroshilov) series of heavy tanks was described in many Western sources as being a slow and cumbersome sidekick to the T-34, and that it had only limited influence on combat during Operation Barbarossa, the German invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941. However, based on the most recent research, such a view can no longer be considered feasible today. Over recent years, the author has undertaken a completely updated and unbiased assessment of the KV and its true role on the battlefields of the Eastern Front. Analysing new findings, it can now be claimed with certainty that the KVs legacy has been severely underestimated. Consequently, this book is the authors fully updated and completely fresh take on a legendary Soviet tank design that came as a total surprise to its enemies, which slowed down the German advance under the most adverse circumstances and to such a degree that it laid the foundation for Soviet victory four years later.
The author goes as far as to say that the KVs role on the Eastern Front of 1941 had, in many respects, similar tactical and emotive impacts on the enemy as the German Tiger tank did on the Western Allies in Normandy in 1944.

This comprehensive publication provides fully updated research on the KV family of tanks, development of its prototypes and pre-series vehicles, the series production batches and its deployment in combat, as well as correcting previously published mistakes. Many new findings are illustrated in astonishing hitherto unknown detail and include new variants that are shown for the very first time. An additional and extensive chapter also rewrites the story of KV tanks serving in the German Wehrmacht as KW Beutepanzers.

Limited Edition: 999 copies

Introduced in the middle of the Cold War, the Leopard 2 main battle tanks became the successor of the Leopard 1 MBT in 1979. From the day of its introduction the Leopard 2's design turned out to be the milestone of post-war German tank technology. The past years and decades saw quite a number of publications covering the Leopard 2's development, more or less detailed illustrating the various production batches. The background of this present book is therefore not to tell a well-known story all over again, but to focus on a particular aspect and highlight it to a hitherto unknown degree of detail: Maintenance and Repair. The pictorial walkarounds aim at showing the tank in various stages of disassembly as carried out in the using units on company and battalion level. Among the procedures shown are track removal, removing the turret and the engine or dismantling the add-on armour components. These works are usually not accessible to the public but thus highlight certain design aspects of the tank that might be interesting to enthusiasts and modellers but not available in other sources. Training systems, storage facilities, halls and tools are also investigated.

Reflecting on the development and active wartime service of the M25 makes it clear why the Dragon Wagon finally made it into the hall of fame for trucks and why it became a legend: It was the first mass-produced (1,372 in armoured and unarmoured versions) tank transporter and the first vehicle in its class solely developed to haul tanks and to recover them from the battlefield. All other heavy trucks that also served this purpose were either built in smaller numbers, were technically not that well advanced, or were not so well suited for either task. The M25, either with the armoured M26 or unarmoured M26A1 tractor truck, was the first of its kind at a time when tank transport was still in its infancy, certainly compared to what eventuated after World War Two. While the wartime M25 can be considered the ancestor of all modern tank transporters, the post-war M26A1 with M15A1 semitrailer would set the ultimate standard. All post-war designs are principally based on technical parameters the Dragon Wagon set, and indeed the overall design is still valid today, if the development of engines is taken into consideration.
This publication closes one of the major gaps in the Dragon Wagon's bibliography: it is a technical high-quality photographical walk-around of excellently restored M26 tractor trucks and M15 / M15A1 semitrailers.

The M25 armoured personnel carrier of the Second World War is regarded as the forefather of all modern armoured personnel carriers. The post-war version M26A1 with its M1A1 trailer still sets the standard for all subsequent vehicles of this type. Walk-around photos show all the details of these vehicles.
