By day, the Flying Fortresses of the US Air Forces "Mighty Eighth" faced off against the day fighters of the *Luftflotte Reich*; then came the turn of Bomber Commands Lancasters to fend off the deadly predators of the night fighter force. Throughout the war years, the tactics and technology of Allied escort fighters evolved just as rapidly as those of their German interceptor counterparts. For the Allied airmen who fought in this war, the cost was appallingly high; for those who stood against themboth in the air and on the groundit was even higher. As the bombing campaign intensified, the German High Command found itself compelled to divert ever-increasing resources in an attempt to defeat the Allied air offensiveresources that were urgently needed elsewhere: both on the Russian Front and, following D-Day on June 6, 1944, on the new Western Front. This book, covering one of the most controversial campaigns of the Second World War, is written from the perspective of "the other side" and is told, as far as possible, through the words of the veterans themselves.

<img src='https://www.zinnfigur.com/out/pictures/generated/product/1/390_245_75/5731_545.jpg' border=0 align='left' hspace=5>A portrait of the Austro-Hungarian fighter pilot Eugen Bönsch. This publication guides the reader through the life of the Czech-German pilot, a native of the Giant Mountains, proprietor of the renowned Lucní Bouda mountain hut, and a pioneer of gliding in the region. Naturally, particular attention is paid to his military flying careerespecially his service with the most successful Austro-Hungarian fighter squadron, Flik 51J, on the Italian Front. The impetus for this book was the discovery of Bönsch's diary, over a century old, from the war years of 1917/18. In it, he describes, almost day by day, his entry into aviation, his pilot training, and above all, his combat missions over the Isonzo and Piave rivers with Flik 51J. The surviving diary, covering the period from mid-February 1917 to early May 1918, is a unique and valuable record of Austro-Hungarian fighter aviation and the air war on the Italian front. It offers numerous new insights, enriches existing archival holdings, and lends them a more personal and dramatic dimension. Bönsch's eyewitness account of the fierce engagement with British RFC fighters on March 30, 1918, near Ghirano airfield, even significantly revises the long-established British interpretation of this episode. Following Bönsch's wartime narrative, the book includes short biographical sketches of several pilots associated with his military service. The text is supplemented by tables summarizing the activities of Flying Company 51J and Eugen Bönsch, as well as by numerous documents and maps. Model builders will appreciate the colored profile drawings of the Albatros D.III (Oef) (various versions), Fokker B.II, Hanriot HD.1 and Sopwith F.1 Camel.

Founded in 1978 as a US-owned airline serving West Berlin, it became a defining German carrier after reunification and was for a long time the second largest airline after Lufthansa. Its combination of affordable fares, holiday routes, and business-class service made it unique and attractive to customers. Growth, acquisitions, and poor decisions led to its insolvency in 2017a watershed moment for the market. In this book, Kai Ortel tells the compelling and well-researched story of this very special airline.

Beginning with the historic maiden flight of the Focke-Wulf Fw 61 in 1936, the book traces the development through the groundbreaking designs of the Second World War, the challenging post-war reconstruction, and up to Germany's leading global role as part of Airbus Helicopters in 2026. The focus is not only on the models themselves, but also on the presentation of technological innovations and their significance. Three-view drawings, rare photographs, and technical data provide a complete overview of this important topic in aviation.

The aircraft, with its distinctive gull wings and characteristic dive-bombing siren, saw action throughout the war and on almost every front, proving particularly effective in its early years of service. Nearly 6,000 aircraft left the Junkers production line by 1944. This volume, with its wealth of detail and contemporary photographs, is undoubtedly the best book currently available on the Stuka.

It was revolutionary in every respect. Dr. Wernher von Braun's team laid the foundation for all rocket development with its construction. Ultimately, this led to the successful American moon landing in 1969. This documentary, featuring rare photographs and outstanding graphics, describes in unprecedented depth the development and also the devastating wartime use of the world's first large-scale rocket, known as the V-2 ("Retaliation Weapon 2").

Tensions mounted daily, with each new restriction, with each show of force. Berlin was the battleground, situated in the Soviet sector of occupied Germany. The Western Allies were determined to maintain their access to the German capital; the Soviets were equally determined to isolate Berlin. In the summer of 1948, the Soviets therefore severed all land connections. This meant that the Allies could only reach the besieged Berliners with vital supplies of food and fuel by air. Thus began the largest logistical air operation in history. On June 24, 1948, the Berlin Airlift was launched. Crews from the US Air Force, the Royal Air Force, the Royal Canadian Air Force, the Royal Australian Air Force, the Royal New Zealand Air Force, and the South African Air Force flew more than 1,500 flights a day, delivering up to 8,893 tons of aid daily. When it became clear that the Allies were both willing and able to continue the airlift indefinitely, the Soviets declared their readiness to negotiate the lifting of the Berlin Blockade in the spring of 1949. This blockade was finally lifted on May 12 of the same year. A total of 2,326,406 tons of supplies and goods were delivered to Berlin in 278,228 flights. Around 692 aircraft participated in the Berlin Airlift, more than 100 of which belonged to civilian operators. They flew 19 different types of aircraft, including flying boats that landed on the Spree and Havel rivers. The Soviet blockade led to the founding of West Germany and the introduction of the Deutsche Mark as its new currency.

Following a dispute with Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring, the commander of the fighter forces, Adolf Galland, was relieved of his post and exiled. He was granted permission to assemble a small fighter squadron to prove that the revolutionary Me 262 was the war-winning jet fighter he believed it to be. Gallandarguably the most famous German fighter pilot of World War IIgathered a small group of disillusioned and exhausted Luftwaffe fighter pilots and flight instructors and relocated his unit, JV 44, to Munich. From there, he operated the Me 262 against USAAF aircraft bombing targets in Austria and southern Germany. In this reassessment of JV 44, published 30 years after his widely acclaimed and successful first study of the unit, historian Robert Forsyth examines Galland's motivations for forming the unit and whether it should be described as a "squadron of flying aces" or a "squadron of outcasts and exiles." The book includes numerous eyewitness accounts gathered by the author during his research in the 1990s, when he met with several former pilots of the squadron.

It was a twin-engine, low-wing monoplane that could be used as both a medium bomber and a ten-seat passenger aircraft. Its maiden flight took place in 1934, and it entered service in 1936. The Ju 86 was equipped with Jumo 205 diesel engines and a smooth, monocoque skin. Although initially used by the Luftwaffe and tested in the Spanish Civil War, it proved inferior to competitors like the He 111 and was retired in 1939. Later altitude variants extended its service with the Luftwaffe, but its civilian and military use in countries as diverse as Chile, Hungary, South Africa, and Sweden constitutes the bulk of its history. "Warpaint" issue 152 follows the usual format, recounting its development and operational history. It includes a detailed tour of the only remaining airframe, as well as color profiles and plans by Sam Pearson.

This vivid account of his first-hand experiences has become a classic among aviation memoirs and provides a fascinating counterbalance to the numerous reports by Allied pilots. Knoke joined the Luftwaffe at the outbreak of war and eventually became commander of a fighter wing. An exceptionally courageous and skilled fighter pilot, he flew over two thousand missions and shot down fifty-two enemy aircraft. He had flown over four hundred combat missions before being wounded in an astonishing last battle towards the end of the war. He was awarded the Knight's Cross for his achievements. In a text that reveals his intense patriotism and discipline, he describes his upbringing in the strict Prussian tradition, the rise of the Nazi regime, and his own wartime career against the backdrop of a fascinating study of everyday life in the Luftwaffe. He also recounts the high morale of the troops until their collapse. His memoirs are both a valuable contribution to aviation literature and a moving human story.
