This book reveals all the model-making know-how that couldn't be fully covered in the monthly "Follow Your Heart" model art series due to space limitations. As always, this book uses numerous photographs and illustrations to explain the techniques that were especially important to the first-generation modeler, including details on tools (such as electric rotary tools and contour-drawing tools). The secrets of first-generation craftsmanship are revealed! This series began as a preparatory, supplementary resource for the publication of regular model-making booksa sort of reference when you get stuckand has now finally reached the level of a practical main text! This book poses the question: "If you were faced with such a problem, how would you think and how would you approach it?" This book is intended to help you find the answer to important model-making questions and is not meant to be a mere imitation.

Model builders can use airbrushes to apply paint quickly and evenly, even in complex, hard-to-reach areas. They ensure even colour coverage and are ideal for pearlescent and metallic surfaces, subtle colour gradients and layering effects that reveal depth beneath the surface. This English-language edition summarises and reorganises the Japanese mecha model content from volumes 1 and 2 of the Character × Technique Encyclopedia series. From the basics of airbrush technique to advanced applications, this book brings together a wide range of techniques in a single volume. Mecha motifs occupy a special place in character modelling. Their fascination lies not only in their dynamic design, but also in their structural precision and sharply defined surfaces. Modern kits look impressive right out of the box, but careful painting and finishing can dramatically enhance their impact. By adjusting the gloss, metallic modulation and controlled surface texture, a model becomes a truly personal creation. This volume covers: basic airbrush techniques (handling paint, thinning control, surface preparation); advanced techniques (metallic modulation, surface variations, depth enhancement). The guiding principle is simple: advanced results are based on solid fundamentals. By mastering the basics, modellers gain the confidence to experiment and refine their own style. In today's global modelling community especially on social media there are very different approaches. Some strive for realism, others for a strong visual impact or creative reinterpretation. However, one motivation always remains the same: we build because it's fun. Technical growth and creative satisfaction reinforce each other. The moment when subtle paintwork brings a model to life often becomes the driving force for lasting passion. If the techniques in this book inspire you to refine your skills and tackle your next project with renewed motivation, then this edition has served its purpose.

The content is based on articles originally published in Monthly Model Art by Masato Akiba, a pioneer in the field of third-party 3D-printed model parts, and has been supplemented and restructured so that even beginners can take on this challenge with confidence. After learning the basic functions in the first few chapters, the book guides you through the process of creating a model inspired by the Lancia Stratos, explaining each step. Once you master these techniquesand with a little extra patience and passionyou will acquire the skills you need to create highly detailed models like the one shown on the cover. Modeling cars can be quite complex, but this complexity is also its strength. Once learned, the skills can be applied not only to scale models and stylized designs, but also to airplanes, ships, and almost all types of mechanical objects.

This time, we will cover applying decals, from the basics to advanced techniques in various areas. We will cover strategies for handling decals that are often overlooked, such as those on ship models and the long, narrow line decals used to represent windows on aeroplanes.
This book serves as both a comprehensive reference work on techniques and a creative guide, combining Michael Rinaldi's detailed methodology with easy-to-understand teaching aids that make the art of reductive chipping understandable and inspiring for model builders of all levels. The reductive chipping technique refined by Michael Rinaldi is an artistic and realistic method for simulating paint abrasion and surface damage on models, especially armoured vehicles, aircraft and other weathered objects. Unlike additive methods, where chips are painted onto the base colours, reductive chipping involves removing parts of the top coat of paint to expose the primer underneath, effectively replicating the natural wear and tear of real vehicles. The aim of Technical Guide Volume 1 is to demonstrate the full range of chipping possibilities on a variety of objects: Tanks: 5 models + test models; Aircraft: 4 models + test models; Civilian: 3 trucks + test model + 2 rail vehicles; Science Fiction/Mecha: 6 models (including Gunpla and Ma.K). This first volume is presented with detailed step-by-step photos, a dual how/why format, and brand new video tutorials accessible via a QR code.

Once dominated by lacquer paints, the world of aircraft modelling now sees a flood of new water-based products, making this a highly competitive market. Too heavy to use in Japan's humid climate? Poor colour brilliance? Difficult to apply with an airbrush? Not anymore! In this issue, the authors cover a wide range of aircraft kits, from pre-war classics to the latest stealth fighter jets, using everything from long-established products to brand new ones. Discover the appeal of water-based paints, which goes far beyond safe and easy to use. Update your knowledge and expand your aircraft painting possibilities.
