Probably the most iconic image of the Falklands War on land is the photo taken by Petty Officer Peter Holdgate, a Commando Forces Photographer while accompanying British forces yomping towards Port Stanley during the war.

At one point on the march one of the Royal Marines attached a small Union Jack to the radio antenna of another Marines field radio.

This simple, straight forward image of a long line of British fighting men marching towards their objective and flying the flag seemed to represent the kind of grit, courage and determination of Britain itself to recapture the Falklands and liberate its small, captive population from a cruel, despotic south American dictatorship.

King & Countrys initial offering is our portrayal in miniature of this lone Royal Marine yomping towards eventual victory and defying all odds.

Additional Falklands War Royal Marines will be released in early 2022 while others, including the famous Red Berets and some Argentinians are already in the works.

Lieutenant Colonel Herbert Jones, V.C., O.B.E. (1940-1982) known as H Jones, was the commanding officer of 2nd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment and the posthumous recipient of the Victoria Cross, Britains highest military award for his leadership and gallantry during the Battle of Goose Green. Our K&C tribute to this brave soldier shows him leading the assault on an enemy machine gun position still wearing his Para red beret and firing his Sterling submachine gun from the hip as he advances. His and 2 PARAs achievement at Goose Green set the tone for the subsequent land victory of the British forces in the Falklands campaign. The British achieved such a moral superiority over the much-larger enemy in this first battle that despite the overall advantages of greater numbers and strong defensive positions the Argentinean troops never threatened the far superior fighting qualities of the British.

This 'Para' takes the knee to deliver a short burst of 9mm rounds from his Sterling Submachine Gun.
This automatic weapon began to replace the WW2 era 'STEN' gun in 1953 and remained standard issue to British forces until 1994. Much more reliable than its predecessor, 'Sterling SMG's' were usually but not exclusively carried by officers, some NCO's, Radio Operators and armoured vehicle crews.

During this conflict, the humble but very sharp bayonet came once more to the front when British troops on several occasions 'fixed bayonets' and charged the enemy most notably when 3 PARA attacked Argentine positions during the Battle of Mount Longdon on the 11/12 June 1982.
Elsewhere, marines from 42 Commando also assaulted defensive outposts on Mount Harriet at the point of their bayonets while other marines from 45 Commando captured Two Sisters.
This 2-man set shows a British paratrooper from 3 PARA about to inflict a very serious bayonet wound on a very surprised Argentine soldier!

The British troops themselves changed the original lyrics to... A great little set of THREE additional Bootnecks (R.M. slang for Royal Marines) yomping their way across East Falklands on their way towards Stanley.

Each Marine carried over 80 pounds of equipment and supplies as well as their personal weapons and extra ammunition.

Originally the Marines and Paras had expected to be transported forward by helicopters, but after the Atlantic Conveyor which carried these aircraft was sunk the troops had to march across the island carrying everything on their backs.

K&Cs 3 X Booties are carrying an assortment of weapons... The ever-reliable L1A1 SLR (Self Loading Rifle), the venerable L4 Bren LMG (Light Machine Gun) and the Belgian designed, British-built L7A2 GPMG (General Purpose Machine Gun).

All naturally are in their standard British military DPM uniform and proudly wearing their green commando berets

A 3-man squad of Argentinean soldiers open fire on advancing British Paras.
Both armies in this conflict used almost the same assault rifle... the British SLR (Self Loading Rifle) and the Argentinean FAL, both derived from the original Belgian designed FN Assault Rifle that fired an identical 7.62mm round.
The only major difference was that the enemy rifles had the ability to fire 'Full Auto' while the British believed in 'every round an aimed round' i.e. that is to say, single shot automatic.
At the end of the day what really mattered was the quality of the soldier behind the weapon not the weapon itself.
Our trio of enemy soldiers are bravely putting up a defence as best they can in a difficult situation.
All are dressed in standard Argentine Cold weather 'Parka' jackets originally designed for and by the Israeli Defence Forces.
The helmets are standard U.S. M1 steel pots with camouflage covers. On the helmets themselves each soldier has a pair of protective goggles.
Each soldier has the standard black leather fighting order and ammunition pouches alongside a water bottle and entrenching tool plus a rifle bayonet and scabbard.
Completing the dress of each soldier are a pair of olive drab trousers in a similar shade to the 'Parka' with a patch pocket on each side of the trousers. On their feet are standard issue black leather combat boots.
Of special note is a small Argentinean flag patch on the upper left arm of each soldier.
As seen here all three soldiers are in various shooting positions and will look great in any trench, on the ground or even behind a rock 'sangar' defence work.

Royal Marines 'Slang' is made up of particular words and phrases that 'Bootnecks' (Royal Marines) have used throughout the Corps' 350 year history and are still in common usage today.
Here, two of our K&C 'Booties' (Marines) are taking a brief break from 'yomping' (a long forced march with a heavy load) across the Falklands to Port Stanley. This sitting 'bootneck' heats up his 'Scran' (food of any description) on his little portable stove. Also check out the L4A1 'Bren' Gun resting on the ground next to the sitting 'chef's left side.
His standing mate is enjoying a 'Wet', (a drink, hot or cold of any description) while cradling his SLR in his left hand.

Here we have a uniquely Falklands War image... a lone British 'Tommy'... he might be a 'bootneck' or a 'para' having a halt to take a closer look at one of the islands original inhabitants a humble but still proud Penguin.
The Falkland Islands represent one of the world's great penguin capitals. As many as 1,000,000 of these delightful creatures 'nest' every summer in the islands along its sandy beaches, sheep paddocks and broad open landscape. Five of the world's seventeen species of penguin call these islands home 'King'... 'Gentoo'... 'Rockhopper'... 'Magellanic' and... 'Macaroni'.
Our bold little feathered friend is a 'King Penguin' and joins with his British 'liberator' to make a unique K&C 2-figure set.

Although technically retired from active service (by 1982) many British units kept large numbers of these venerable and much respected Bren Guns in their Regimental and Battalion armouries.

As units deployed down south and required additional firepower substantial numbers of L4A1 Bren Guns were taken down to the Falklands and were used by both Parachute Battalions as well as all Royal Marine Commando units and Royal Navy ships.

Another obvious firing position with the L1A1. At that time, all British rifles were semi automatic because British military doctrine was... every round is an aimed-round. No spraying the enemy with fully automatic... you are only wasting ammunition!
