Behind her lay a training voyage to the South Atlantic, during which the ship and crew had proved their worth. The "Carolina" spent the first two and a half months of her voyage as the escort ship of the "Novara", and it was not until 20 July 1857 that she was released with the command "Free Manoeuvre" and allowed to sail her own course. The edition of this voyage diary is intended to preserve the memory of this missionary voyage of the corvette "Carolina" to the South Atlantic.

The author covers the history of the Donauflotille from its beginnings to the handover of the two patrol boats in November 2006. Numerous previously unpublished photographic material as well as data on these two patrol boats, some of which was kept top secret, complete this publication. In addition to the detailed biographies of the "Niederösterreich" and the "Oberst Brecht", such as the visit to the Soviet Black Sea Flotilla or the only foreign visit to Bratislava, this reference work contains the general plan and numerous detailed plans of the "Niederösterreich". A treasure trove not only for naval enthusiasts, but also for the large number of modellers.

The river served at the same time as a frontier with some less stable neighbors, and during the presence of Turkey on the Balkans, the Austrian Empire had at its disposal a strong Danube flotilla with sail- and rudder-driven warships. In the second half of the 19th century, there began the building of a Imperial and Royal Danube Flotilla equipped with steam-driven warships. During World War One, Austria-Hungary operated ten monitors on the Danube, together with a score of patrol boats, armed steamers and auxiliary warships.

The history and fates of all these vessels are given here, together with the history of their development, with technical data and numerous illustrations, supplemented by an extensive list of sources and literature, to enable the search for further details.

Like a beached whale, the wreck of H. M. U-20 lay on the Molo in Grado in the summer of 1962, waiting to be scrapped. The shell-encrusted tower now stands in the Heergeschichtliches Museum in Vienna as a memorial to three officers and 15 sailors for whom the boat became a sailor's grave.

Nevertheless, interest in the history of Austria's maritime past has not waned. The author places the eventful history of S.M. U-27 at the centre of his work, drawing not only on Austrian sources but also on foreign documents, most of which are being published for the first time, as is the extensive photographic material.

This, together with the short biographies of the officers of U-27, creates an impressive picture of everyday wartime life on a submarine of the Austro-Hungarian Navy.

It is therefore all the more astonishing that the more than 200-year history of naval music in the k. (u.) k. Kriegsmarine has been forgotten. Until now, there has been no comprehensive work on the history of music in the Habsburg Navy.

Oliver Trulei and Dieter Winkler, independently of each other, have taken up the challenge of compiling the little material available in time-consuming and laborious research and supplementing it with illustrations. The results of this work have now been brought together in the present book on naval music. This is the first detailed overview of the history of the music of the Imperial and Royal Navy and its bands. Kriegsmarine and its Kapellmeister.

Kriegsmarine have been published, but they only dealt marginally with the officers and commanders of the submarines. With the present work, for the first time, all the men who were appointed to the submarine command in the imperial and royal navy are now to be described. The aim of this work is to present biographical sketches of all the men who were appointed submarine commanders in the Imperial and Royal Navy and to rescue them from oblivion.

From 1907-1918, the Imperial and Royal Navy had 27 submarines at its disposal. Kriegsmarine had 27 submarines, which were commanded by 51 officers. In addition to military career, awards and commands, the post-war fates of the officers are also dealt with and supplemented with over 80 photos.

Seekadetten Oedl collected letters from his comrades,
who took part in the battle in the Strait of Otranto in 1917, as well as the photographs he took during the sea battle
provide an interesting insight into the events.

In the subsequent photo section, there are shots of the units before the battle,
during the engagement with the superior enemy, the daring tow manoeuvre, the damage to the ships and the burial of the fallen. One section deals with the opponents, the repair work and the visit of Emperor Charles I to the ships. A list of all those honoured as well as a review of the artistic debate of the naval battle round off the account.
