Valley Forge was the name of the camp where George Washington camped with his army in the winter of 1777-78 during the American War of Independence. It was located in southern Pennsylvania, about 35 km northwest of Philadelphia, in what is now Montgomery County. The place name is derived from a blacksmith's shop on the little river Valley Creek. In the winter of 1777/78, Washington's troops starved at Valley Forge. Chief Shenandoah of the Oneida caused his tribe to bring food from their reserves over several hundred kilometres on foot. By February 1778, nearly 2500 soldiers had died here from malnutrition, cold and disease. - Wikipedia -
