Description
The Continental Army was formed by the Congress in June 1775, George Washington was named its commander in chief. What he started with was few troops, almost no uniforms or equipment, clothing, or weapons. What he found were brave men ready to fight for the idea of freedom. But that was not enough to build an efficient army. Foreign professionals, such as the French Louis Lebèque Duportails or the Prussian Baron von Steuben, were needed to improve organisation, discipline and drill.
But despite all the hardship officers and privates from New Jersey or Maryland, Massachusetts or Pennsylvania were suffering from, there must have been moments of leisure and joy, like shown here with this young musician playing and dancing to a tune...
