Description
The first such cartridge was the centrefire cartridge developed by the American Hiram Berdan with Zündhütchen pressed in from außen. The variant patented in 1866 (US patent 53 388, 3-14-1866) still used a copper barrel. The problem was that the sleeve deformed slightly when the cylinder was pressed in. The cartridge sold well, but in 1869 they switched to brass. It was patented, with other detail changes, in September 1869 (US patent 82 587). Berdan had thus created a cartridge that is still being manufactured today. -Wikipedia-
