Eduard - A Czech Model Making Success Story

Eduard is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of model kits and accessories. The model kits of the ProfiPACK and Limited Edition model kit line come with detailed photo-etched parts to achieve the highest possible detail of the models. In addition to numerous aircraft models, Eduard offers a huge selection of photo-etch parts, resin parts and conversion kits for aircraft, military vehicles and ships.

The Eduard company originates from the Czech Republic and is based in Obrnice. Eduard is a force to be reckoned with in model building, particularly in the field of photo-etched parts. In addition to the detailed aircraft kits, the manufacturer is also known for its range of resin accessories.

Eduard Modellbau - Company History

In 1987, Citad Kurak and Vladimir Sulc began privately producing photo-etched parts in the Czech Republic. The etched parts became very popular among modelling enthusiasts, so they had to increase the production volume.
Finally, in 1989, they jointly founded the company Eduard Model in the Czech Republic.
As early as 1990, Eduard managed to bring home-made parts in 1/48 scale to the market. Demand and production started so well that production was even extended to parts in 1/72 and 1/35 scales.
Eduard brought out its own model kits for the first time in 1993: Sopwith Schneider and Sopwith Baby in 1/72 scale. Sopwith Tabloid was a two-seat biplane sports aircraft and had its maiden flight in November 1913. A seaplane variant was produced for the Schneider Trophy, which was won on 20 April 1914.
In the spirit of optimism of the 1990s, numerous small-series producers of plastic model kits emerged in the Czech Republic at that time, most of which, unlike Eduard, disappeared again in the following period.
The model kit of a Fokker E III followed in 1994, the first model kit in 1/48 scale.
Due to constant expansion, the company moved to larger premises in Obrnice in 1997 and invested in technology: all-metal injection moulds now made their way into production.

Eduard Modellbau - product range

In model making, Eduard is valued for its excellent aircraft model kits and accessory range of etched parts and conversion kits for vehicles, ships and aircraft.

Eduard plastic model kits

Unlike Tamiya or Trumpeter, for example, the Eduard model kit range includes four clearly differentiated product lines: Weekend Edition, ProfiPACK, Limited Edition and Super44.
The product lines differ from each other in price and equipment.

Eduard Modellbau - Weekend Editon

The Weekend Edition is a simpler and cheaper alternative to the ProfiPack kit models, which can be described as the standard models. All models in this series offer the modelling enthusiast high quality injection moulded kits at an affordable price.
The kits consist exclusively of injection moulded plastic parts and have decorative foils to build one or partly another variant of the model (marking). The products of the Weekend Edition are therefore especially interesting for beginners and model building fans who want to invest less time in assembling.
These kits can be upgraded considerably with separately available accessory sets as required.

Eduard Modellbau - ProfiPACK Edition

The ProfiPACK product line consists of high-quality plastic model kits, which are additionally equipped with photo-etched parts for a very high level of detail. Covering foils or stencils of the set also help with the painting of the model or with painting work on the model. The decal sheets usually give the model builder a choice of four to six aircraft insignia and/or markings for his model.
The models of the ProfiPACK product line are offered in the scales 1:48, 1:72, 1:144 and 1:32.
You can recognise the kits by the printing of the same name on the top right of the packaging.
The ProfiPACK kits are designed for moderately experienced hobbyists and are very popular.

Eduard Modellbau - Limited Edition

The Limited Edition models also consist of high quality plastic parts. As with the ProfiPACK models, they have additional detailed photo-etched parts. These sets are complemented by an even larger selection of aircraft insignia and/or markings for the model by including even more decal sheets with the kit. The high level of detail is further enhanced by resin accessories which are also part of the Limited Edition models.
Many of the Limited Edition kits are offered as Dual Combo Packs, which include two complete kits. The series is aimed at advanced modellers and collectors of models. Unfortunately, due to the popularity of these kits, they often sell out quickly.

Eduard Modellbau - Super44

The products of the Super44 model line are aimed at fans of the 1/144 scale. The kits contain high-quality plastic parts and decal sheets with at least four different marking options, but Eduard does not include additional accessories and the popular paint stencils with these models.
Similar to many Airfix models, the models are suitable for beginners and offer a lot of assembly fun.
