The Arado Ar196 was the standard seaplane of the German Kriegsmarine and operated from battleships and cruisers. Over 500 examples were built between 1938 and 1944, which proved particularly effective in reconnaissance and submarine hunting. The manoeuvrable aircraft offered its two-man crew excellent visibility and was able to take off and land even in rough seas thanks to its robust construction.
